An apartment complex management committee in Sarjapur needed to enclose the stairwell connecting the car park level to the lobby to improve fire compartmentalisation, following requirements raised in a building safety audit.
Installed 12mm fibre cement boards on a GI framework to create the stairwell enclosure, with a fire-rated door frame and opening. Fibre cement was selected for its suitability in the high-humidity basement car park where gypsum would be unsuitable.
The stairwell enclosure was accepted by the fire safety auditors on re-inspection, removing the non-compliance finding from the building's safety register. The cement sheet construction is performing without any moisture-related degradation in the humid car park environment.
