An Indiranagar restaurant wanted to replace its dated gypsum ceiling with something more characterful. The existing services — ductwork, data cabling, and speakers — ran at varying heights, making a flat replacement ceiling impractical.
Suspended solid teak baffles at a uniform 2,700mm finished height, with a black-painted plenum above where all services were reorganised onto a new carrier grid. The baffle gaps create a natural acoustic diffuser effect that reduces the echo that had been a persistent complaint from diners.
The restaurant's noise level at full occupancy dropped to a comfortable level for conversation. The teak baffles brought a warmth and quality the previous ceiling could not offer, and the refurbishment was featured in a Bangalore lifestyle publication.
